A 230km self-sufficient stage ultra marathon through multiple wildlife conservancies in the shadow of Mount Kenya, run in support of the rangers who protect Africa's remaining elephants and rhinos from poaching. Organised by Beyond the Ultimate in partnership with Save the Rhino and For Rangers, part of a global race series bringing runners to the frontline of wildlife conservation.

Only 4 places remaining for the 7th September 2026 edition at time of listing. Secure your place with a £750 deposit on entry, with the remaining balance split into three further instalments of £750 each (due 270, 180, and 90 days before race start), or pay in full at entry. Once a staged payment is made it is non-refundable - travel insurance covering entry fees is strongly recommended. Entrants must have completed a marathon-length event within 12 months of the race date. A 2027 edition is also open, taking place 6th September 2027, with 63 places remaining.

Course Details

A 230km self-sufficient ultra run across 5 stages over 5 days, starting from base camp at Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and finishing at Ol Pejeta Conservancy. Runners carry all mandatory kit - clothing, medical supplies, food, and sleeping equipment - throughout the event; only water is provided on course. Checkpoints appear roughly every 10km with a shelter, qualified medic, and clean drinking water. Terrain varies from grasslands and rocky hills to riverbeds and montane forest, with daytime temperatures ranging 15-34°C and evening temperatures dropping to 2-12°C, across roughly 12 daylight hours per stage.

Getting There

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (base camp) is approximately 267km from Nairobi CBD, around 4 hours 58 minutes via the A2 through Meru County. Fly into Nairobi, then travel by road via Thika Road/A2 north through Meru County to Isiolo and on to Lewa. The event runs for 8 days in total including travel days.
