Course Details

All distances start and finish at Matenjagwo Stadium in Kibereke, Kandara. The 21km Half Marathon winds through the scenic landscapes and communities of Kandara, offering a challenging but rewarding route for seasoned runners and ambitious first-timers. The 10km Challenge Run and 5km Fun Run cover shorter sections of the same general area, suited to a wide range of fitness levels, from families and first-time runners to those chasing a personal best.

Getting There

Matenjagwo Stadium is in Kibereke, Kandara Town, Murang'a County, approximately 59km from Nairobi CBD, around 1 hour 6 minutes via the Embu-Nairobi Highway/A2 (Thika Road). From the CBD, head toward Moi Avenue, turn onto Tom Mboya Street, continue onto Murang'a Road, then merge onto the A2 highway and follow it for around 41km before taking the exit toward Kandara and following signs to the stadium.

Did You Know?

🌍Kandara Education Marathon was founded in 2021 by the Kandara Education CBO, a group of professionals from Kandara Sub-County committed to education access.
🌍The scholarship programme covers a student's entire four years of secondary school, including tuition, school fees, uniforms, shopping, books, and learning materials.
🌍More than 50 students have been supported through the programme so far, with the pioneer cohort of beneficiaries joining university in 2026.
🌍In the 2026 academic year, 22 students were sponsored to join Grade 10 in Senior School, with a goal to onboard 30 more students in 2027.
🌍The marathon is supported by local and national partners including ICEA Lion, KCB Foundation, Kenya School of Government, and AIC Githumu Hospital, among others.
