Course Details

The route runs point-to-point from the GPO in central Nairobi to Semara Hotel in Machakos town, covering 63km on road. The course descends from Nairobi's plateau (around 1,795m) toward Machakos (around 1,600m), but expect rolling hills and some significant climbs in the middle sections. An early 4:00 AM start is essential to cover ground before the midday heat builds on the lower, drier Machakos stretch.

Getting There

The race starts at the GPO on Kenyatta Avenue in central Nairobi, easily reachable from any part of the city. The finish is at Semara Hotel in Machakos town, approximately 63km southeast of Nairobi. Arrange a lift or use transport back to Nairobi after the race; most participants sort return travel in advance.

Did You Know?

🌍Machakos (also colloquially known as Machakosville) was the first colonial administrative centre in Kenya, established in 1889.
🌍The route drops roughly 200m in net elevation from Nairobi to Machakos, though the mid-course hills ensure this is no easy downhill cruise.
🌍The InterTown Running Group has built a loyal community around city-to-town ultras, having previously run routes including GPO-Isinya (71.5km) and GPO-Kenol (56km).
🌍InterTown Running Group organises city-to-town ultras throughout the year; upcoming 2026 routes include GPO-Limuru via Kiambu (44km, July), GPO-Naivasha (88km, December), and a Stanchart Recce (30km, October).
