The inaugural Mombasa Mega Marathon marks the return of a major marathon to Mombasa after a 14-year break, approved and sanctioned by Athletics Kenya. Themed 'Stride for a Drug-Free Generation,' the event supports drug-free sensitization programs in Mombasa schools, in partnership with organizations including Reachout and Mewa Rehabs.

Course Details

Start and finish at Mama Ngina Waterfront, which also hosts the Race Village. The main loop passes through the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) area, Fontanella, the Docks, Treasury Square, Uhuru na Kazi, State House, and the Mombasa Golf Club/Golf Course before returning to Mama Ngina Waterfront. 42km runners complete the loop three times; 21km runners complete it twice. The 5km fun race follows a shorter, separate course from and back to Mama Ngina Waterfront.

Getting There

Mama Ngina Drive is approximately 18.6km from the Mombasa SGR Terminus via Mombasa Road/A109, taking around 33 minutes.

Did You Know?

🌍The Mombasa Mega Marathon last took place in 2012, making this the city's first major marathon in 14 years.
🌍Mombasa County plans to develop low-altitude training camps for athletes, offering an alternative to high-altitude centres like Iten.
