ELDORET, Kenya: Absa Bank Kenya is bringing its City Run concept to the country, with Eldoret set to host the inaugural edition this week on Sunday, 1 November 2026.
The free event will feature 3km, 5km and 10km categories, welcoming residents, families, fitness enthusiasts and running clubs to walk, jog or run at their own pace.
Elite athletes are also expected to compete in the 10km category.
"We invite every resident of Eldoret to be part of this historic event. Whether you are joining the 3km Fun Run with your family, taking on the 5km challenge, or participating in the 10km route, this event is about coming together as a community, embracing healthy lifestyles, and creating memorable experiences."
Timothy Kosgey
The launch coincides with Absa's 100th anniversary in Eldoret, marking a century of engagement with customers, businesses and communities in the region.
The bank says the event is intended to celebrate that relationship while encouraging active living and community participation.
"For 100 years, Absa has been part of Eldoret's growth story, supporting generations of customers, businesses, and communities as they pursue their ambitions," said Timothy Kosgey, Absa Bank Kenya's Eldoret regional manager.
He added that the City Run reflects the bank's commitment to bringing communities together, promoting wellness and encouraging people to be active.
Absa already has an established presence in mass-participation road running through South Africa's RUN YOUR CITY Series. Launched in Cape Town in 2015, the series has expanded to include events in Durban, Johannesburg, Gqeberha and Tshwane, combining mass participation with elite competition.
Absa is also involved in athletics and community fitness in Kenya beyond major elite competitions such as the Absa Sirikwa Classic and the Absa Kip Keino Classic.
Through Absa Life Assurance Kenya, the bank has supported community initiatives including the Nairobi Marathon Relay, organised by Fitness with David. Absa was also among the partners listed for the recently concluded Mombasa Mega Marathon, reflecting its involvement in a wider range of running events.
The Eldoret City Run could mark the beginning of a broader series of community running events in Kenya. While Absa has not announced plans to take the event to other Kenyan cities, the established RUN YOUR CITY Series in South Africa offers a possible model for how the concept could grow over time.
For now, Eldoret will be the first test of the format locally, bringing together everyday runners and elite athletes in a single event.
Entry to the Eldoret City Run is free. Elite athletes entering the 10km category must have a valid national identity card and an Athletics Kenya registration number.
Members of the public can find registration information through Absa Bank Kenya's social media pages, at its Eldoret branch, or on our dedicated Absa City Run Eldoret page.
